1. Who controls your information
Buchanness Fishing Partnership, Edgewater House, Inverugie, Peterhead, AB42 3DP, is the controller of personal information collected through this website and through enquiries made about equipment advice. Our contact telephone number is +44 7779 245591 and our email address is [email protected]. VAT ID: GB 132044462.
2. Information we collect
When you submit an enquiry, we may collect your name, email address, telephone number, the type of fishing you are interested in, the equipment information you choose to provide and the content of your message. We may also receive basic technical information associated with a website request, such as device and browser information, where this is generated through normal operation and security of the service.
3. Why we use personal information
We use enquiry information to respond to your request, understand the fishing context you describe, prepare equipment advice, keep a record of the conversation where needed and administer any later quotation or purchase. The principal lawful bases are taking steps at your request before entering into a contract, performing a contract where one is formed, complying with legal obligations that apply to us, and legitimate interests in operating, securing and improving our enquiry and customer service processes where those interests do not override your rights.
We do not use enquiry information to make solely automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects. Direct marketing, where used, is handled separately from the core enquiry and only where the required permission or another lawful basis applies.
4. Sharing and service providers
Personal information may be handled by suppliers that provide website hosting, communications, administration or security services on our behalf. Those providers are permitted to use information only for the services they provide to us and are expected to protect it appropriately. If a campaign measurement service such as Taboola is active on a landing page, its use of personal information and tracking technologies is subject to the consent and transparency requirements described in our cookie policy.
5. International transfers
Where a service provider processes personal information outside the United Kingdom, we assess the transfer mechanism required by UK data protection law. Depending on the destination and provider, this may include an adequacy regulation or appropriate contractual safeguards. Information about a relevant safeguard can be requested using the contact details above.
6. Retention
We keep enquiry records only for as long as they are needed for the purpose for which they were collected, including responding to the enquiry, managing an active customer relationship, dealing with follow-up questions and meeting legal or accounting requirements where applicable. Enquiries that do not lead to an ongoing customer relationship are reviewed and removed when they are no longer reasonably required. Records linked to a transaction may need to be retained for longer to meet legal, tax or accounting obligations.
7. Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law gives you rights to request access to personal information, correct inaccurate information, ask for deletion, restrict certain uses, object to processing and receive certain information in a portable format. Where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw that consent without affecting processing that was lawful before withdrawal. Some rights are qualified and may not apply in every situation.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office if you believe your personal information has been handled in a way that does not comply with data protection law. We would welcome the opportunity to address a concern directly first.
8. Cookies and similar technologies
Our cookie banner allows you to choose between necessary cookies and all available categories. Necessary preference storage can operate without optional measurement technologies. For details about categories, purposes and duration, see the cookie policy.
9. Changes to this notice
We may update this notice when our services, suppliers or legal obligations change. The date at the top of the page shows when this version was last updated.
